Home learning is an important part of Chestnut Grove Academy’s curriculum because it increases learning time by 25 percent a year and enables students to develop their knowledge and understanding independently.
It is also important because is it the main channel by which education becomes a shared responsibility between home and school.
Home learning assignments are set on Microsoft Teams and all students have access to Microsoft Office. For more information, please log in to Teams and access the relevant Year Group Team. If you have forgotten or lost your login details or password, you can reset them by clicking here.
At Key Stage 3, the majority of subjects set home learning once a week. Subjects such as PBE have one lesson per week and therefore, set homework twice per half term. Performing Arts set one written home learning per half term due to rotation of dance and drama.
In their first four weeks, Year 7 Students are introduced to home learning through a phased approach and assignments will be set in English, Maths, Science, Health, Modern Foreign Languages and Philosophy, Beliefs and Ethics. After the first four weeks, home learning assignments are set as per the home learning timetable in all subjects.
At Key Stage 4, subjects set home learning assignments once a week.
In the Sixth Form students will be set a minimum of five hours of independent study for each subject taken.
YEAR 7 HOME LEARNING TIMETABLE
