Subject Overview
The Chestnut Grove MFL curriculum promotes students’ open-mindedness towards foreign culture, language and being a citizen of the world, which encourages them to question their own experiences, and the world around them. It allows students to understand how different languages are constructed, make links between them and to be empowered to communicate, express opinions and formulate ideas in other languages.

Qualifications / curriculum offer
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 language students at Chestnut Grove study from a grammar based scheme of work on a range of topics following the Dynamo, Studio and Viva Pearson textbooks. Over the three years, students will be introduced to the perfect, imperfect, present, future and conditional tenses to enable them to confidently express themselves and give opinions and point of view in their written and spoken work. By the end of Year 9 all students should be fully prepared for studying a language at GCSE.
Key Stage 4
Student in years 10 and 11 continue to study from a grammar based scheme of work on a variety of topics following the Studio and Viva Pearson GCSE textbooks. The final exams happen at the end of Y11 and students are assessed in listening, speaking, reading and writing, each skill area being worth 25% of the GCSE.
